Jungmyung Lee is a graphic/type designer, running a type foundry, called Jung-Lee Type Foundry based in Amsterdam. Through J-LTF, Jungmyung’s primary focus is telling stories and exploring the life of typefaces and their emotions as she manifests typefaces have their own courses of life. She publishes the experimental typography, art, and literary journal, Real-Time Realist.
Through J-LTF, Jungmyung’s primary focus is telling stories and exploring the life of typefaces and their emotions. Her practice can be roughly divided into two parts. As a classical type foundry, J-LTF releases “retail fonts,” both created by herself and as collaborative projects with Dutch design legend Karel Martens. The other side of her practice is her display typefaces and the publishing- and performance-based work she creates around the typefaces she produces.
Real-Time Realist is a serial publication of J-LTF PRESS. During the first Test Press Books 2021 it was presented for the first time in Bulgaria. Now sold out we present issue two.
Again the publication not only serves as a presentation of J-L TF typefaces, but also brings them to life through autobiographical stories. As the 1st issue explored wonder, distraction, surprise and awe (the blue sector of Robert Plutchik’s Wheel of Emotions) this second issue explores the yellow sector, ecstacy, joy, serenity and love, through contributions from invited artists distilling the aforementioned emotions.
It is a beautiful publication, edited by Jungmyung together with Lieven Lahaye
